Small nonprofits are navigating big challenges, and you don’t have to do it alone. This spring, the Healthy Nonprofit Network is hosting a three‑part roundtable series designed to help you stay responsive, grounded, and connected in a rapidly changing environment.
Presented March 26, 2026
This session highlighted the value and motivation for nonprofit mergers and strategic alliances to increase impact and share resources to address community needs.
Moderator: Neena Smith-Bankhead, Director, Healthy Nonprofit Network, Emory Centers for Public Health Training and Technical Assistance

Recap of Resources and Concepts Shared
We heard about the Collaboration Continuum as a framework for making intentional choices about how we structure partnerships to function well for the organizations involved. We spoke with Nicole Roebuck, MSW, Executive Director, AID Atlanta, Inc., as a seasoned leader in well-established alliances. She shared real-world lessons from her organization’s experience with:
- Forming a strategic affiliation with a large global foundation
- Acquiring and integrating a smaller HIV clinic in Newnan, Georgia
The discussion focused on when partnerships make sense, how to vet potential partners, and how to manage organizational change with transparency and trust.
